Dead Set: Deconstruction of Scenes 2

  • Camera movement away from Patrick pans around to show a large numer of Tvs. Most of which are used in the production of the show. However, there is one in the bottom right corner which stands out because the content contrasts with the others around it and the TV set contrasts the difference between the real world and the 'reality' house. This should capture attention because of the ‘Breaking News’ headline but everyone seems to be oblivious to it because they are all so caught up in the reality show.

  •  The zoom in and the diegetic sound from the TV makes the audience aware. This diegetic sound continues to the next mid shot of Rick in the van with a news reading on the radio. Again, he seems oblivious by the media surrounding him as this is what he has become used to.
  •  This may create a sense of panic for the audience with subliminal words and phrases such as “gun shot” and “can not guarantee the safety of”.
  •  A close up shot looking into the door of the green room could suggest that the audience are gaining an insight in to a totally different world of the past big brother contestants. The subliminal diegetic sounds of laughter and close up shots of champagne present them as having a care free celebrity lifestyle.

  •  Close up shots of staff watching the TV shows the people are slowly becoming aware of the issue. However, Patrick and the other producer are more concerned that public voting figures are down but not really interested as to why “numbers are ways down, network issues or something”
  • This dialogue is delivered with the subliminal sound of  a busy phone line tone. This may create a sense of enigma for the audience and help to portray the scale of the issues outside of the studio and shows how people depend on forms of communication to keep them connected in the media.
  •         The two scenes are juxtapositioned when the shot returns to the big brother house because of the bright mise en scene and no background sounds compared to the dim lighting and the busy atmosphere just behind the walls.
