The Imposter: Deconstruction of Website

  • This website follows most of the main conventions of a film website. This may be because it is a documentary so they are trying to make it simple and real rather than using effects that would divert the attention from the concept of the film.
  • A banner with consistent typography and links to social networks is displayed at the top of every page along with the menu making it easy to navigate. This can make in appealing and easy to use to a wide range of people as the audience may be varied because of the documentary genre.

  •  The colour scheme uses black grey and greens that would conventionally be used for a horror. This is effective because although it is presented as a documentary the colours give it a chilling effect, which hints at the psychological thriller aspect of the film.

  • The home page also conforms to many conventions of a film website with quotes from journalists and magazines and the trailer embedded; both for promotional purposes.

  • For further promotion there are also separate pages on the website for the trailer and media coverage. These are effective as the audience may not focus on these areas if just skimming the home page and they are 2 large forms of promotion on a website.
  • Having a page on the interview subjects in the film adds to the realism and makes the audience believe that this really is a true story with references to his family and professional people who have provided scientific evidence to back up the case. Overall, this adds to the thriller element.
