The last exorcism poster deconstruction

  • The poster shows a mangled girl covered in blood, she is in the centre of the poster so is the first thing the audience would see. The picture is rather disturbing and as it is the main focus within the poster the makers are trying to enhance her disjointed body and it allows the audience to expect shocking scenes in the film.
  •     The girl is covered in blood and it is different shades with clotted bits, this makes it more realistic, this is emphasised by the neutral colours of the room and the peeling wallpaper as it adds a sense of realism to the whole picture.
  •  The tagline is ‘Believe in him’ which sounds rather demanding, however there is a mystery towards who ‘him’ is, it can be inferred that it is the devil as that is what the film is about. This is then counteracted with the cross underneath.
  • The typography looks slightly religious however it is blood red which runs with the theme that the devil is present.
  •   By having the title positioned at the bottom and the tagline at the top it makes the audience stop and look around the whole poster, it is all spread out so takes longer to look at everything in the poster.
  • We can’t fully see the girls face as it is shroud in a shadow, this can be inferred to be the devil inside her.
