Theatrical vs Teaser trailers

     Theatrical trailer

Theatrical teasers are longer and shown in theaters right before the film's release
   Gives actual release dates
Is more detailed and may provide plenty of detail as to what the plot is about and what the audience can expect from the film
More extended time, can be up to 2/3 minutes, standard time is 2 minutes 30 seconds
Contains more footage of the film itself
Can help distinguish and establish characters

Teaser trailer

A teaser is specifically meant to tease as they do not reveal any significant plot details
Only to give a minor glimpse as what is to come
Teaser trailers are found online, on TV and in theaters quite a long time before the film's release usually says coming soon rather than actual release dates
Meant to create anticipation and interest for the target audience
   Is usually under two minutes
Often made whilst the film is still in production or editing
Less of the footage shown will actually be seen in the film as it is released during the editing process
   Establishes genre

 Conventions of trailers

Either fast pace to create excitement and anticipation or slow pace in order to create a build up and sense of enigma
Interesting camera shots and editing techniques
   Horror genre usually jumpy, shocking
Action genre usually lots of fast action
   Hint to storyline
   Clear genre
Montage clips giving a glimpse of the film footage
