• Theatrical teasers are longer and shown in theaters right before the
film's release
• Gives actual release dates
• Is more detailed and may provide plenty of detail as to what the plot
is about and what the audience can expect from the film
• More extended time, can be up to 2/3 minutes, standard time is 2
minutes 30 seconds
• Contains more footage of the film itself
• Can help distinguish and establish characters

• A teaser is specifically meant to tease as they do not reveal any
significant plot details
• Only to give a minor glimpse as what is to come
• Teaser trailers are found online, on TV and in theaters quite a long
time before the film's release usually says coming soon rather than actual
release dates
• Meant to create anticipation and interest for the target audience
• Is usually under two minutes
• Often made whilst the film is still in production or editing
• Less of the footage shown will actually be seen in the film as it is
released during the editing process
• Establishes genre
Conventions of trailers
• Either fast pace to create excitement and anticipation or
slow pace in order to create a build up and sense of enigma
• Interesting camera shots and editing techniques
• Horror genre usually jumpy, shocking
• Action genre usually lots of fast action
• Hint to storyline
• Clear genre
• Montage clips giving a glimpse of the film footage
