He loves me, He loves me not poster deconstruction

Image
  • Same person however image is reversed perhaps reflecting two sides to the character, split personality or opposite personality traits
  • One of the images is cast in shadow and the other in light which could represent good and bad reflecting the 'two sides' implied at in the tagline
  • Red rose, symbolic of love, romance or/and passion
  • The girl dominants the poster which could hint to her as a crucial/main character critical to the plot and narrative of the film
  • Her eyes are looking of up to the poster, a look of admiration perhaps looking up to someone, possibility of infatuation
  • Typical connotations of a romantic film
Tagline
  • ‘Every love story has two sides’ – is reflective of the imagery in the poster and hints at a possible plot twist, steering away from typical romance film story
  • Hints at being potentially dangerous or should be aware
  • The font colour is both black and white, emphasises the two opposite/different sides again
  • Colour scheme
  • Predominantly red. Connotations of red being love, desire but also danger
  • Black and white text stands out against the red background but also are contrasting which again reflects the theme of opposite which the poster has done in several ways
Typography
  • The typography is simplistic and not necessarily immediately associated with a romantic film which is commonly script-like not bold font
  • As the font is not typically romantic it could suggest that the film is not typical of a romance film either
Golden rule/ Positioning of elements
  • The positioning of the titles is designed to make the viewer look longer at the poster as the text is not central in the poster and so the viewer’s eye is drawn around the whole of the poster
  • The poster’s elements are divided into three sections, the tag line, image and titles.
Genre
  • This poster is typical of the romance genre however elements do suggest it will have a twist different to the average romantic film
  • Perhaps a hint to thriller as connatations of danger
