Jennifer's Body Poster
Deconstruction
- The image on the poster shows a teenage girl sitting on a school desk in front of a blackboard. The theme is school which is supported by the mention of high school in the tagline. The girl is about 17/18 and holding books so we can guess that the film is set in a high school.
- However this isn't the only theme as the desk she’s sitting on has a hand coming out of the lid which links to body horror. The tagline also reads: ‘She’s evil…and not just high school evil’. This suggests that the girl in the picture not only is a stereotypical popular American teen but is also the villain in the film in a more dangerous and horrific way.
- It is suggested that this girl is a typical popular teen girl as is beautiful, wearing skimpy clothes and high heels with a smouldering expression. This appeals to the target audience of teenagers as she is a typical character that some can relate to.
- The use of red is conventional for a horror as it connotes blood and dangers.
- The font for ‘Jennifer’s Body’ is in the style of high school merchandise such as the numbers of the back of sports clothes which again links to the setting of a high school. Other font is in white so it can be read clearly.
- All of the features of the poster are positioned centrally to make the poster easy to look at. The exception is the writing on the blackboard which is right next to the girl’s face therefore is in an eye-catching place.
- The background to the poster is green and grey connoting a grisly and dank environment which is conventional for the horror genre.
- The ‘hell yes’ on the blackboard is a sly comment at the link between evil and a good-looking girl. This is an inspirational feature as it’s not as obvious as the rest of the features.
