Make up inspiration

Inspiration moodboard

• After looking at examples of smile make up from existing media products I looked further into make up and face paint that we could potentially take inspiration from
• I made this mood board to show different examples of smiles and looked more closely at the methods I could use for our make up look
• I also looked at make up tutorials on YouTube to gather ways/methods to create our make up look 
• I found this tutorial of particular interest as the smile is really gory and gruesome 
• We are looking at the smile in our trailer being a result of torture and so as this smile looks cut it could be well suited  

Chelsea grin

• When looking at examples I came across the term 'Chelsea grin' which refers to the wound given from slashing a person's face from the edges of the mouth upwards which gives the appearance of the victim smiling broadly  
• The cut is usually made with a knife or shard of glass and even sometimes a credit card
• The practice originated in Glasgow but became popular with English gangs, especially in Chelsea gangs hence the name 'Chelsea grin'
• The Chelsea grin has been used in media productions such as The Dark Knight where the Joker bears the facial scar
• Also the Chelsea grin is referred to in Green street - "We'll leave you with a proper souvenir.. ever heard of a Chelsea grin"
