The Truman show
Clip-
Camera Angles
Throughout the whole clip every camera angle has a clear view
of each character as it is meant to be a television programme. The overhead
shot when Truman is threatening Meryl shows them clearly, and it allows the
audience of the programme to see them both but also the viewers of the film to
see them both too.
The close up shot of Meryl allows the audience to see her
emotions and how upset she is.
Sound
The diegetic dialogue of Meryl talking about the cocoa as
though advertising it enhances the fact its a television programme and Truman
himself picks up on that. When she shouts ‘Do something’ and looks straight at
the camera it again allows Truman to question who she is talking to.
The non diegetic sound of a violin adds a creepy effect to
what is going on, on screen.
Meryl says ‘its unprofessional’ she is talking to the studio
and the crew members directly.
The scene depicts a stereotypical home, with plain
furnishings. The button on Meryl’s
clothes is actually a camera to that the audience can see Truman’s face, this
enhances Truman’s
Accusations that Meryl is part of a big conspiracy.
Throughout the whole scene Meryl puts on an oversized smile,
as though no matter how bad a situation get she still has to smile as she is on
TV.
The use of the Mococoa as a distraction but also used to
advertise to the viewers.
Editing
The shot reverse shot of each character allows the audience to
see the characters reaction to what is being said.

Camera
Angles
Each camera
angle in the show has been picked by the director. He uses the ‘button cam’ to
get a full head shot of Truman at a low angle. In the studio there are close up
shots of all the crew who are watching what is on screen. There is also use of
a green cam as Truman walks towards his ‘father’ making it perfect for the
audience to see the whole scene.
At the end there
is a close up shot of the creator as his reunion is a success and you can see
it in his eyes.
Sound
The creator
of the Truman show says ‘easy on the fog’ showing that the father son reunion
is being played out perfectly for the viewers of the world. The timing the
dramatic diegetic piano music perfectly to that it will coincide to what is on
screen, in the actual film there is a non diegetic music being played.
Truman says
‘I never stopped believing’ because he truly believes his ‘father’ has come
back from the dead, yet we know as an audience it has been set up deliberately
and perfectly to coincide with the previous events.
At the end
the diegetic cheers from the crew of the TV show and watchers allow the
audience to see it was a success.
Mise en
scene
The use of
the fog and easing it up allows the scene to run perfectly so that when the
shot changes to the audience they are able to see clearly.
The two
elderly ladies sitting in their home watching the reunion with Truman cushions
allows us as an audience to see that The Truman show is watched by wide range
of people.
Editing
The use of
shot reverse shot and zooming in on Truman builds tension alongside the build
up of emotion that Truman is probably feeling.
The pan
upwards of the viewers of Truman are holding each other looking up engrossed in
the reunion.
Clip-
·
The scene starts with a long shot of Truman
through a camera which looks like its inside the bathroom cabinet. It says ‘On
air’ at the top which shows this is being broadcasted.
·
Truman is looking straight forward and the shot
changes to a long shot of two male crew in the studio and they stop what they
are doing and one says ‘Jesus do you think he knows’ worried that Truman know
they are looking.
·
He then starts whistling with
the diegetic dialogue of ‘come in major berbank’ showing he is looking at
himself on the ‘mirror’ he then draws a space helmet on with soap causing the men
to laugh and carry on with what they are doing.
